On September 21, according to CNBC, Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A.N, BRK.B.N) completely exited its stake in BYD (01211.HK), which had brought it huge gains. In August 2022, Berkshire began to reduce its holdings of 225 million BYD shares it bought in 2008 for $230 million. The value of the stake had soared 41% to $9 billion in the second quarter of 2022. As of June last year, Berkshire had sold nearly 76% of its holdings, reducing its shareholding ratio to less than 5% of BYD's outstanding shares. According to Hong Kong Stock Exchange rules, there is no need to disclose subsequent reductions after the shareholding ratio is less than 5%. However, a Buffett watcher pointed out that Berkshire Hathaway Energy, which owns the stake, reported in its first-quarter results that the investment had been worth zero as of March 31. A Berkshire spokesperson confirmed that all of its holdings in BYD, which rose about 3,890 per cent during Berkshire's holding, had indeed been sold.
