Paul Atkins, chairperson of the Securities Exchange Commission, said on Friday that the agency would press ahead with a sweeping overhaul of its disclosure rules for investors in public companies. The SEC announcement came the same week that Mr. Trump tweeted that the SEC should change the frequency of financial disclosures for public companies from "quarterly" to "semi-annually". "Now is the right time to look at the different sources of information, the ways in which information is disseminated and'what disclosures meet the actual needs'," Mr. Atkins said, noting that many investors get more information from "earnings calls" than quarterly earnings. In addition, Atkins also agrees with Trump, who has criticized "quarterly reporting systems that lead executives and management to focus too much on short-term earnings".
