Former US Treasury Secretary Summers: Fed policy "accommodative" inflation remains top concern

Mr. Summers, the former US Treasury secretary, said the Fed was leaning towards "too accommodative" policy, stressing that the biggest risk to the US economy came from inflation rather than the labour market. "If I were in the position of Chairperson Powell, the biggest concern would definitely be around inflation," he said. Referring to the Fed's interest rate cuts, Mr. Summers said: "I don't think they're under political pressure to do it, but I think at a time like this [the Fed] has to'do its best '[maintain an anti-inflation stance]. And I'm not sure they're doing the'full force' I want."
