Yifan Hu, Greater China Investment Director and Head of Macroeconomics for Asia Pacific at UBS Wealth Management, said that looking ahead, in the benchmark scenario, the Federal Reserve is expected to cut interest rates by a further 75 basis points by Quarter 1 in 2026. The Fed is expected to continue to prioritize labor market weakness over the possibility of a temporary rise in inflation. In the downside scenario, if labor market weakness proves more severe or persistent, the Fed could cut interest rates by 200-300 basis points, possibly as low as 1-1.5%.
