Federal Reserve Chairperson Jerome Powell said on Wednesday that some of the tougher inflation scenarios facing the economy had eased. "In fact, since April, I think the higher and more persistent inflation risks may have diminished somewhat, in part because of a softening labor market and slower GDP growth," Mr. Powell said at a news conference. Mr. Powell said the tariffs were driving up price pressures, but it was becoming increasingly clear that this was more of a "one-off price increase than a trigger for an inflationary process."
