After a record rally in US equities, small-cap stocks are finally joining the fray, ending a downturn since the start of the epidemic. The Russell 2000 rose 2.1 per cent to 2453.36 after the Federal Reserve cut interest rates, surpassing its all-time closing high since November 2021 for the first time. The index then partially narrowed its gains but was still on track to end its longest unrecorded rally since the dotcom bubble era. Doug Beath, global equity strategist at Wells Fargo Investment Institute, said the small-cap rally coincided with "elevated risk appetite and expectations that the Fed could cut rates three times this year".
