Powell: 50 basis point rate cut not widely supported

Fed chairperson Jerome Powell said there was no broad support for a bigger, 50 basis point cut at this week's meeting, after the Fed cut rates by 25 basis points. "There was absolutely no broad support for a 50 basis point cut today," Mr. Powell told reporters at a press conference. "You know... over the past five years, we've had very large increases and cuts, and that's usually when policy is clearly misaligned and needs to be adjusted quickly to new levels."
