The Colorado State Attorney's Office announced today that Adetomiwa Seun Akindele, a 37-year-old Nigerian man, has been sentenced to 71 months in prison for carrying out a cryptocurrency "love scam". It is reported that Akindele posed as an Italian-American businessman "Frank Labato" during 2018 and defrauded a Colorado widow of about 1.70 million dollars in cryptocurrency through a dating website. FBI Denver Branch Special Agent Mark Michalek said that such scammers usually target the trust and emotions of their victims. Akindele will be deported to his home country after serving his sentence. Experts point out that between 2020 and 2024, such criminal networks have moved over 75 billion dollars through cryptocurrency exchanges.
