According to Crypto in America, the US Congress held a session on the promotion of bitcoin strategic reserve legislation on September 17. Several Republican lawmakers, including Senator Ted Cruz and Marsha Blackburn, as well as MicroStrategy founder Michael Saylor and other industry representatives attended the meeting.
The BITCOIN Act, reintroduced by Senator Cynthia Lummis in March, seeks to include bitcoin as a national strategic reserve asset on par with gold and requires the U.S. government to acquire 1 million bitcoins over the next five years.
Hailey Miller, director of policy at Digital Power Network, said there was a strong consensus on the need for a strategic bitcoin reserve and the next step would be to push for it to be included in a broader policy framework. The proposal is a further extension of President Trump's previous ban on the sale and seizure of bitcoin.
It is worth noting that this proposal remains controversial outside the cryptocurrency community, and Lummis himself has admitted that it may take a long time to convince his congressional colleagues.
