On September 17, Yala released a follow-up analysis report of the September 14 attack incident. The attacker used the temporary deployment key during the authorized cross-chain bridge deployment to establish an unauthorized cross-chain bridge and withdraw funds. The YU token was once unanchored to $0.20, but later stabilized at $0.94. Officials said that the attack did not exploit the protocol vulnerability, and bitcoin reserves were not affected.
The hackers have returned 2228.7 million YU tokens, and the remaining 7.713 million YU have been converted to 1635.572 ETH, of which 151.5 ETH was mixed through Tornado Cash and 1474.6 ETH was scattered across 146 hacker-controlled wallets.
Yala announced that it will destroy illegally minted YU tokens on September 23, restoring the 1:1 USDC exchange ratio. It will also provide compensation to users who suffer liquidation losses due to de-anchoring, and has worked with law enforcement to track down the hackers.
