The September Federal Reserve meeting may see three governors vote against it for the first time since 1988

The US Senate on Monday narrowly confirmed Milan to take over as a governor of the Federal Reserve, taking one of 12 votes in the run-up to the central bank's key September policy meeting. Mr. Trump's two other Fed governors, Mr. Bowman and Mr. Waller, both voted against keeping rates on hold in favour of a rate cut at the July meeting. Analysts said they were likely to vote against a sharper cut at the September meeting because of weaker-than-expected labour market data. Since the early days of former chairperson Alan Greenspan's tenure in 1988, there has been no opposition to a Fed policy decision by three governors. (Kim 10)
