OpenAI has hired Mike Liberatore, the former treasurer of Elon Musk's xAI, as commercial finance officer for the artificial intelligence start-up, overseeing its massive infrastructure spending, CNBC reported. Liberatore left xAI in July after just three months and joined OpenAI on Tuesday, a company spokesperson said. He will report to Sarah Friar, chief financial officer, and work with Greg Brockman's team, which manages the contracts and capital operations behind OpenAI's computing power strategy. The appointment is the latest development in the escalating rivalry between Sam Altman, chief executive of OpenAI, and Mr. Musk. The duo co-founded OpenAI's non-profit research lab in 2015, but have publicly broken up and become formidable rivals in recent years as the company has been transformed into a fast-growing business entity primarily funded by Microsoft.
