Robinhood (HOOD) plans to launch a publicly traded fund, Robinhood Ventures Fund I, to give US retail investors the opportunity to invest in private equity companies, including unlisted IPOs. Robinhood says the fund will change the landscape of private equity opportunities that have long been dominated by wealthy individuals and institutions, excluding ordinary investors and allowing ordinary investors to participate in elite investing.
Robinhood has filed a preliminary registration statement with the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) for the fund's offer for sale, which it plans to trade on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the symbol RVI. The company said the fund will hold a long-term portfolio and cover multiple industries in response to the decline in the number of public companies and the significant increase in the number and value of private equity companies in the United States in recent years. The total valuation of private equity companies in the United States has exceeded $10 trillion.
