OpenAI chairperson: artificial intelligence bubble is not without benefits

Brett Taylor, chairperson of OpenAI, is not naive enough to dismiss the potentially huge impact of a tech bubble, but says the prospect is not entirely without benefit. "It's true that artificial intelligence is going to change the economy," says Mr. Taylor. "I think it's going to create huge economic value in the future, just like the internet. It's true. At the same time, I think we're in a bubble and there are going to be a lot of people who are going to lose a lot of money. Both of these things are true at the same time, and there's a lot of precedent in history that both can happen at the same time." Sam Altman, founder of OpenAI, echoed Mr. Taylor last month, warning that there would be big winners and big losers in the artificial intelligence hype cycle.
