Google had considered selling parts of its ad-tech business to address antitrust concerns in Europe and the United States, but the Department of Justice's proposal to force the sale of its ad exchange goes far beyond that, a Google lawyer said on Monday. The Justice Department is asking for a "complete technical separation and divestiture" of Google's ad exchange, AdX, the company's outside lawyers said. The Justice Department and Google will begin a two-week hearing next week on whether the company must sell some of its businesses after a judge ruled that Google had an illegal monopoly on two ad-tech markets. "Google has considered divestitures," the lawyer said, "but this is completely different from the Justice Department's proposal in every respect."
