According to the Financial Times, Tesla chairperson Robyn Denholm defended her decision to offer Mr. Musk $1,000bn in stock options, saying he was a "unique" chief executive who had to go above and beyond and achieve "seemingly impossible goals" in order to receive the historic award. "In order to achieve the vision we have set, he will have to put in more time, energy and effort than ordinary people," Mr. Denholm said in an interview. "This is definitely not going to be easy. This is a very ambitious plan... He is entitled to unprecedented rewards if he can get it done." Danholm also defended the board's "hands-off" approach to Musk's controversial political positions, stressing that he enjoys freedom of speech and has the unique qualities Tesla needs.
