Martin Kocher, the new president of Austria's central bank and a member of the ECB's governing council, said in an interview that the central bank could temporarily keep interest rates at 2 percent if there were no major shocks. "Right now, this interest rate cycle is over, or very close to it," Kocher said. The ECB decided to keep rates unchanged at 2 percent for the second consecutive meeting on Thursday. "If there are no major changes in the data," Kocher said, the rationale for this month's decision will "continue to hold true in the next few ECB meetings to some extent." Asked about his personal stance, Kocher said that for now he "prefers to be cautious on monetary policy" and advised against taking too many risks on inflation.
