Alex Thorn, head of company-wide research at Galaxy Digital, said there was a good chance that the US government would build a strategic bitcoin reserve by the end of the year. Thorn wrote on the X platform that the market seemed to completely underestimate the possibility of such an announcement.
According to reports, although President Trump signed an executive order in March formally establishing the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and the US Digital Asset Reserve, the formal strategic plan has yet to be confirmed. However, multiple recent developments suggest that the plan is still moving forward. On Tuesday, US lawmakers introduced a bill directing the US Treasury to review and develop a report on the feasibility and technical considerations of the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve.
However, not all crypto market participants believe this will happen anytime soon. Dave Weisburger, former chairperson of CoinRoutes, said it is more likely to happen in 2026. Some bitcoin advocates are concerned that the United States could fall behind other countries if it continues to delay accumulating bitcoin.
