Andrea Joy Campbell, the attorney-general of Massachusetts, has filed a lawsuit against Kalshi, a prediction market platform, alleging that its sports contracts violate state betting laws and operate like licensed bookmakers. The lawsuit seeks to bar Kalshi from offering sports prediction markets without a licence and to pursue monetary compensation. Prosecutors point to the psychological design of the platform to attract users through gambling. Kalshi, which had a dispute with the federal CFTC, was conceded this year, and its board member Brian Quintenz was Trump's nominee for CFTC chairperson. Kalshi said the platform was fair and transparent and would defend innovation in court.
