Polymarket and Kalshi to raise funds at a valuation of $9 billion and $5 billion

Event prediction market platforms Polymarket and Kalshi are considering a new round of financing that could reach a valuation of $9 billion and $5 billion respectively. Polymarket, which was valued at only $1 billion when it raised funds this summer, may now be offered as much as $10 billion by investors and has been approved by the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to return to the US market. Rival Kalshi is also close to completing a new financing, with its valuation sharply increased to $5 billion, up from $2 billion a few months ago. In terms of volume in August, Polymarket was around $1 billion and Kalshi was around $875 million. Polymarket investors include Peter Thiel's Founders Fund, while Kalshi's investors include Paradigm and Sequoia Capital.
