Former Brazilian President Bolsonaro was sentenced to 27 years and three months in prison

On September 12, local time on the 11th, the Federal Supreme Court of Brazil sentenced former President Bolsonaro to 27 years and 3 months in prison for the crime of coup conspiracy. Earlier in the day, the collegial panel of the Federal Supreme Court of Brazil voted by a majority to convict former President Bolsonaro on multiple charges. In October 2022, Brazil held a presidential election, and Lula defeated Bolsonaro in the second round of voting and was elected the new president. On January 8, 2023, some Bolsonaro supporters stormed the Brazilian Congress, the presidential palace and the Federal Supreme Court, causing serious damage. Since then, the Brazilian judiciary has launched an investigation into the relevant incidents and filed charges one after another.
