According to sources, ECB officials see December as the next opportunity to cut interest rates

On September 11, three sources said that European Central Bank policymakers believe that the December meeting is the most realistic time frame to discuss whether another interest rate cut is needed to cushion the impact of U.S. tariffs on the euro zone economy. The European Central Bank kept interest rates unchanged on Thursday and maintained an optimistic view on economic growth and inflation, dampening expectations of further rate cuts. But ECB Governing Council sources said that the debate on rate cuts is not over yet, although policymakers may not have enough information before the next meeting on October 29 to make a proper assessment. This means that the December 18 meeting is seen as a more likely date to discuss lowering borrowing costs, given the upcoming inflation and economic growth data and the next batch of forecasts.
