The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) announced Monday that it will take steps to eliminate so-called "debanking", responding to calls from industry groups and Republicans to end the practice, which is seen as unfair. "The OCC is taking steps to end the weaponization of the financial system," said Jonathan Gould, head of the OCC, adding that the agency will work to root out banks' activities that illegally discriminate against customers based on political or religious beliefs.
