The US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has imposed sanctions on a vast network of fraud centers in South East Asia that use forced labor and violence to steal billions of dollars from Americans, according to the US Treasury's website. The sanctions include nine targets in Myanmar's Ruigou Valley, a notorious virtual currency investment fraud center protected by the OFAC-designated Karen National Army (KNA), and ten targets in Cambodia.
The Ministry of Finance's sanctions today target a major fraud center sheltered by Myanmar's Karen National Army (KNA). The KNA is headquartered in Rui Gou Gou, Myawadi Town, Karen State, in southeastern Myanmar, adjacent to the Thai border. By working with the Myanmar military, the KNA controls territory in Karen State, in eastern Myanmar. KNA leaders profit from transnational criminal activities, including the use of cyber fraud centers run by trafficked labor, and the sale of utilities used to power these fraudulent activities.
