In an interview with NBC News, U.S. Treasury Secretary Vincent Bescent denied that Trump's sweeping trade tariffs are a tax on Americans, and he dismissed concerns from major U.S. companies such as John Deere, Nike, and Black & Decker, which have all said Trump's tariffs will cost them billions of dollars a year.
"People are coming to these conclusions from earnings calls where companies have to give grim scenarios. But no company is coming out and saying, 'Oh, we did it because of the tariffs,'" Mr. Bescent said. He added: "If things are so bad, why is GDP 3.3 per cent? Why is the stock market reaching new highs? Because President Trump cares about big companies as much as he cares about small companies." (Kim Ten)
