On September 5, Anthropic announced that it would immediately stop the use of Claude to groups or their subsidiaries that are majority-owned by Chinese capital. This policy applies not only to Chinese mainland companies, but also to those with subsidiaries established overseas, Cloud as a Service transit entity, or organizations with Chinese-backed investors.
Anthropic said in a statement on its website that the move was to address legal, regulatory and national security risks. In addition to Chinese companies, the policy also applies to other entities considered "adversarial nations" by the United States, such as Russia, Iran, North Korea and other entities.
