The Securities Exchange Commission's Office of Inspector General (OIG) revealed in a report released Wednesday that the SEC's IT division "implemented an incomprehensible automation policy that resulted in businesses wiping data from Gensler government-issued mobile devices," deleting stored text messages and operating system logs.
The inspector general's office found that some of the texts Gensler deleted related to the SEC's enforcement actions against cryptocurrency companies and their founders, meaning that key communications about how and when the SEC pursued cases may never be fully known, not even to the courts, Congress, or the public.
