The three major U.S. stock indexes collectively closed higher, with the Dow up 0.77%, the S & P 500 up 0.83% and the Nasdaq Composite up 0.98%. Chip stocks strengthened, with Western Digital up more than 5% and Micron Technology up more than 4%. Big tech stocks strengthened, and Amazon rose more than 4%, its biggest gain since May.
