Federal Reserve Board nominee Milan: No consultations with White House on long-term tenure

Stephen Millan, US president Donald Trump's nominee to the Federal Reserve board, said on Thursday that he had not discussed a possible long-term nomination with anyone in the White House after telling senators that only a long-term nomination would prompt him to resign from his current position as White House economic adviser, rather than simply take a leave of absence. When pressed, Mr. Millan initially refused to respond. When pressed again, "Really not?", he replied briefly: "No." At his confirmation hearing in Milan, Democratic senators were concerned that his failure to resign from the Council of Economic Advisers would lead him to bow to the president's will under pressure from Mr. Trump in the interest rate vote. Mr. Millan denied this.
