GK8's latest security report reveals that cybercriminals are recruiting professional voice imitators on underground forums to launch sophisticated "vishing" attacks against U.S. cryptocurrency executives.
These precisely tailored attacks target high-value targets with escrow infrastructure and private key access, with operators earning up to $20,000 a month. Attackers use carefully collected personal information of executives, deepfake technology, and voice voice changers to imitate banks, crypto services, and government entities for social engineering attacks.
Tanya Bekker, head of security research at GK8, warned that it will become more difficult to distinguish between authenticity and forgery in the next 12-18 months, recommending that crypto organizations implement specific protocols and training to counter voice and video social engineering strategies.
