According to the Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the matter, US Treasury Secretary Vincent Bescent plans to conduct a series of intensive interviews with candidates for the Federal Reserve Chair starting from Friday. The sources said the interview process will continue until next week, and Bescent will communicate with the candidates in person or by video conference. According to Bescent and his advisers, there are currently 11 candidates shortlisted, including Federal Reserve Governor Waller and Bowman, National Economic Council Director Hassett, and former Federal Reserve Governor Walsh. After the interview, Bescent will submit the final list of candidates to Trump. Bescent has previously said that he will start the selection process for the successor to the Federal Reserve Chair shortly after Labor Day.
