A US federal court in Washington is unlikely to rule by September 4 in President Donald Trump's dismissal of Lisa Cook, a Federal Reserve governor, after judges agreed to extend the deadline for the government to file briefs. US District Judge Jakob asked the Justice Department to file another brief by Thursday opposing Cook's request for immediate court action to block the Federal Reserve from enforcing the dismissal order. Judges typically wait until all documents have been submitted before making a ruling. Judge Jakob held a hearing on August 29. Cook's lawyers argued that if an agreement with the government is not reached to ensure that she continues to perform her duties during the litigation, the judge needs to issue an interim ruling to maintain the status quo as soon as possible. The next meeting of the Federal Reserve will be held on September 16-17.
