"Several" candidates for Federal Reserve chairperson are also candidates to fill two vacant seats on the central bank's board of governors, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent said on Monday. Asked about the market's reaction to President Donald Trump's attempt to oust Fed governor Tim Cook, Mr. Bescent said both bond and currency markets had remained "calm". Mr. Bescent said he and Mr. Trump had "discussed at length who the candidates should be and their qualifications", adding that Mr. Trump had "great respect" for the Fed.
