Lee Eog-weon, the nominee for the chairpersonship of South Korea's Financial Services Commission (FSC), has publicly pledged to take strict measures to crack down on improper practices in cryptocurrency trading. In a written reply submitted for the appointment hearing, he stressed that insider trading, market manipulation and other improper practices in the virtual asset space will be curbed under the existing legal framework of the Virtual Asset User Protection Law, which was implemented in July 2024. His appointment hearing, which he will attend on September 2, is a key step towards formalizing these regulatory enforcement measures.
