The US Treasury has released preliminary data from its annual survey of foreign portfolio holdings in the United States through the end of 2024. The survey showed that the total value of foreign securities held by the United States at the end of 2024 was about $15.80 trillion, including $12.10 trillion in foreign stocks, $3.30 trillion in foreign long-term bonds (with an original maturity of more than one year), and $400 billion in foreign short-term bonds. The previous survey had a total value of $15.30 trillion in foreign securities held by the United States through the end of 2023, which included $11.50 trillion in foreign stocks, $3.40 trillion in foreign long-term bonds, and $400 billion in foreign short-term bonds.
