According to Cointelegraph, U.S. prosecutors are appealing the prison sentence of the co-founders of crypto mining service HashFlare. Prosecutors are appealing the 10-year prison sentence for HashFlare founders Sergei Potapenko and Ivan Turžgin.
HashFlare is a $577 million Ponzi scheme company. On Aug. 12, Seattle Federal Court Judge Robert Lasnik sentenced the two men to complete their sentences, fined them $25,000, and required them to complete 360 hours of community service while on supervised release. Their sentences are expected to be completed in Estonia.
After being arrested in October 2022, the two were detained in their native Estonia for 16 months and extradited to the United States in May 2024, where they pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
