According to CryptoNews, KPMG Japan executive Kenji Hoki said at the WebX 2025 summit in Tokyo that a bitcoin ETF in Japan could be launched in the spring of 2027.
Hoki said that Japanese policymakers may propose lifting the ban on domestic bitcoin ETFs in the next tax reform, and tax reform proposals are usually submitted at the beginning of each year, which means that the request for bitcoin ETFs may be made in early 2026. If passed, the parliament may legislate it in March or April 2026, and the relevant law will take effect in the spring of 2027. However, Hoki also mentioned that if the issue is resolved through an amendment to a government decree rather than a legal amendment, the ban on bitcoin ETFs may be lifted as early as next year.
