Krishna Guha and Marco Casiraghi, analysts at Evercore ISI, said in a report that Mr. Trump's attempt to fire Fed governor Tim Cook could be a turning point, allowing the Fed to gradually "reshape" in line with the president's wishes. "We believe the current baseline scenario should be a very significant'Trumpisation 'of the Fed by 2026," they wrote. While this does not necessarily mean a drastic shift in policy and practice, "we must consider very carefully that this could lead to a rupture from past practice and a substantially different response function." If Cook is forced to leave, the Fed's independence could be eroded, possibly in the form of "steeper yield curves, higher inflation compensation, and higher inflation risk premiums."
