President Donald Trump said on Monday he wanted to increase investment in US companies, but it was unclear whether the US business community would support it. The White House on Friday announced the purchase of a nearly 10 per cent stake in Intel, a deal that converts government grants into equity. Analysts said the move was a departure from decades of thinking about the US economy. In the past, the government took stakes in private companies only in rare emergencies such as the 2008 global financial crisis and subsequent bailouts of US car companies.
