On August 25th, according to the Wall Street Journal, Taylor Thomson, heir to the Thomson Reuters media empire, invested in cryptocurrencies after listening to the advice of a fortune teller, and eventually lost more than $80 million.
Thomson is understood to have invested with the assistance of former best friend Ashley Richardson, who managed Thomson's $140 million crypto portfolio during the 2021 bull market. This includes a $40 million investment in XPRT, the native token of proof-of-stake blockchain project Persistence, which is currently down 99% from its all-time high. Thomson has filed a $25 million lawsuit against Richardson and Persistence, alleging secret commission arrangements and misrepresentations. Thomson has reached a settlement with Persistence, but the lawsuit with Richardson continues.
