Apple (AAPL. O) is in preliminary discussions about using Google (GOOG. O) 's Gemini to power a revamped version of its Siri voice assistant, marking a key step towards more outsourcing of artificial intelligence technology. Apple recently approached Google about building a custom artificial intelligence model that will serve as the basis for a new Siri next year, according to people familiar with the matter. Google has started training a model that can run on Apple servers, the people said. Earlier this year, Apple also explored working with Anthropic or OpenAI to assess whether Claude or ChatGPT could be the "new brain" for Siri. At present, it will take several weeks for Apple to decide whether to continue using the internal model of Siri or move to a partner, and Apple has not yet determined who that partner is.
