A so-called $50,000 reward from the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol) for tracking down the administrators of the Russian ransomware gang Qilin was actually just a Telegram scam. The false bounty news deceived several cyber security news outlets into thinking that Europol would pay a reward to anyone who could provide information on two Qilin administrators, Haise and XORacle.
The two men are said to be responsible for "coordinating affiliates and overseeing extortion activities", and Europol wants intelligence that "directly leads to the identification or targeting of these administrators".
However, Europol confirmed to Security Week that the alleged bounty was in fact a "scam" and that it had never issued such a reward.
