Systemic inefficiencies, including high fees, complex regulations, and structural issues such as technical barriers and high start-up costs, are slowing investment and hindering the flow of capital into Latin American capital markets, a phenomenon known as "liquidity delays," according to Bitfinex's Securities Market Inclusion Report released on Thursday. The region's liquidity delay problem may be solved by adopting real-world asset (RWA) tokenization, which refers to financial and other tangible assets minted on an immutable blockchain ledger, thereby improving investor accessibility and trading opportunities.
Bitfinex said that tokenizing financial products on the blockchain could improve accessibility, transparency and efficiency, including reducing the cost of financing offerings by up to 4 percent and reducing IPO time by up to 90 days. The company said that tokenization could expand access for investors and create more trading opportunities.
