U.S. Federal Judge Jennifer L. Rochon in Manhattan on Tuesday unfrozen $57.60 million worth of USDC assets tied to the Libra Meme coin, which was launched in February and promoted by Argentine President Javier Milei but collapsed within hours of its launch. The judge had previously frozen the assets in June as plaintiffs sought more than $100 million in damages.
The judge said the defendants, Hayden Davis and Ben Chow, had cooperated well during the trial and were not "circumventing litigation", so they were no longer concerned that they would transfer the funds. At the same time, the judge was skeptical that the plaintiffs would win the lawsuit. The unfreezing means the defendants can reuse the funds.
