Fed meeting notes labor market conditions remain strong

In its July meeting notes, the Fed noted that recent data showed that labour market conditions remained solid. The unemployment rate was 4.1 per cent in June, down 0.1 percentage points from May. The labour force participation rate fell slightly by 0.1 percentage points in June, while the employment-to-population ratio remained unchanged. Total non-farm payrolls rose solidly in June, but private sector payroll growth slowed significantly. The ratio of job openings to unemployment in June was 1.1, still in a narrow range over the past year. Average hourly earnings for all workers rose 3.7 per cent in the 12 months to June, slightly slower than a year earlier.
