New York Man Sentenced to $228 million Fine for Cryptocurrency Fraud

A New York man has been fined $228 million for cryptocurrency fraud. Eddy Alexandre and his company, EminiFX, were sued by the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) for fraud, and the court has awarded huge damages. Alexandre illegally raised about $59 million from investors for foreign exchange and cryptocurrency trading, but misappropriated large amounts of money to buy luxury cars and luxury goods. In addition to civil penalties, Alexandre faces criminal charges, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to nine years in prison. The case involved thousands of investors, with total losses exceeding $49 million.
