A new proposal proposes to build Ronin as an L2 chain based on Arbitrum Orbit. The proposal comes as the Ronin team plans to migrate the current gaming chain to a fully Ethereum-compatible Layer 2 by 2026. According to the proposal, Arbitrum has a unique advantage in helping Ronin "return" to Ethereum: Arbitrum has a dedicated Web3 gaming investment division, so Ronin as L2 on the Orbit chain will not only receive technical support, Arbitrum will also become a deeper partner. Ronin L2 will use RON as a Gas token and be supported by Arbitrum Gaming Ventures.
This scheme will enable Ronin to natively support RON as a gas token, while enjoying faster transaction speeds, higher customizability, autonomous governance rights, and fee benefits optimized for validators. It is worth noting that Arbitrum Orbit is the only L2 technology stack on Ethereum that can natively support the above four ecological functions without relying on "workarounds" or sacrificing upgradability.
