"The Ministry of Finance and Bank of Korea will definitely discuss how to regulate stablecoins issued overseas," Lee Chang-yong, governor of the Bank of Korea, said on the 19th.
"The United States, Japan, and the European Union have passed regulations such as the GENIUS Act, the Funds Settlement Act, and the Crypto Asset Market Regulation Act (MiCA) respectively, which in principle prohibit the sale and trading of overseas-issued stablecoins within their borders. Shouldn't we regulate to prevent monetary sovereignty from being infringed?" Mr. Rhee responded.
He added: "We are looking at whether we can implement the same regulatory measures as the European Union's MiCA Act."
