According to foreign media, citing two sources, the US commerce secretary is looking at the federal government taking stakes in chipmakers that are funded by the chip bill to build factories in the United States. The move is an extension of previous plans: the United States plans to exchange cash grants for part of Intel's stake. A White House official and a person familiar with the matter said Mr. Lutnik was exploring how the US could acquire stakes in companies such as Micron Technology (MU. O), TSMC (TSM. N) and Samsung while providing chip bill funding. Most of the funds have not yet been disbursed.
