The United States may provide Ukraine with a NATO-like Article 5 security guarantee

On August 18, Ukrainian President Zelensky and leaders of the European Union and many European countries will visit the White House today (August 18). Witkov, the special envoy of the US president, said in an interview on August 17 local time that the United States and some European countries may provide Ukraine with security guarantees similar to Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty. Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty is NATO's clause on collective defense, which stipulates that member states will jointly respond to armed attacks.
